  1. FESTIVAL TRAVEL ITINERARY TIPS

Conference sessions for the 5th Annual Digital Storytelling Festival begin Thursday September 16,1999 at 9:00AM and conclude Saturday September 18 following an evening of traditional storytelling. We suggest you plan your travel itinerary in order to arrive Wednesday September 15 in time to attend our registration reception being held from 6:00PM - 8:00PM.

  1. YOUR STAY IN CRESTED BUTTE

Crested Butte is a small town; most shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance from the bed and breakfast establishments, so there is little need for a car once you are in town. The majority of the Digital Storytelling Festival events will take place at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts located east of Highway 135, between Whiterock and Belleview Avenues.

There are many wonderful restaurants in Crested Butte, most are located in the downtown area and all are within walking distance. A list of restaurants and a town map will be provided in your registration package at the festival.

  1. LIFE IN THE MOUNTAINS

Early autumn is a beautiful time in Crested Butte, the aspen leaves should be at their peak of turning golden and the skies are normally clear and blue. We suggest very comfortable, casual clothes for the festival (especially walking shoes). Expect temperatures to be around 50 to 70 during the day and 30 to 50 at night. The weather can be unpredictable and although snow is generally not expected this time of year, anything can happen. We suggest packing layers of clothing that can be added or subtracted as the weather changes throughout the day.

Crested Butte is located at 8,885-foot elevation and although most people experience no difficulty at this high altitude, it is important to stay hydrated. We recommend drinking 6-8 large glasses of water each day and avoiding excessive alcohol, tobacco and caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration and high altitude sickness.
